Overview[]
- Go northwest of Gangus Outpost, alongside the back-face of the Howling Maw Volcano, through the Dead Zone to the volcano's rim. Visually survey the crater's rim then report your findings to Colonel Sherk at Gangus Outpost.

Briefing[]
- The crest of the Howling Maw Volcano needs to be physically surveyed ASAP!
- Your recent discovery of the Infection pumps at the base of the Death Burrows identified some unusual residual radiation readings. These radiation readings are new and, until recently, never been classified - that's why we never really noticed them in the past. Naturally, the readings are indicative of Bane activity, but these same readings, we discovered, are emanating out of the Howling Maw Volcano.
- Satellite readings are inconclusive thanks to the heavy smoke layer over the Volcano's crater, so I'll need you to make a physical survey of the region to identify the source of the new radiation readings.
- Through questioning the locals, we discovered that there is a route to get to the Howling Maw Volcano's crater rim, although it will be a very hazardous trip. You'll need to follow a large field of dead terrain that winds behind the Volcano's face. There is a scorched trail that will lead you to the rim. The treacherous part is that this "Dead Zone" is covered with Infected creatures of all sorts, including the Infected Foreans. I don't think it's a good idea to go this alone, so I'd suggest taking a small squad with you just in case.

- There's a Bane base in the Howling Maw Volcano?! Well, that explains a lot! Great job, soldier. Now we just have to figure out why the Bane have planted a Base inside a volcano and how we're going to get to it.
Walkthrough[]
Follow the rim of the volcano around to the west and once you've reached the northwestern side of the rim, look for a darker path with many rocks embedded within it. This will lead up the rim. Keep following the path, now heading for the mission indicator, and keep an eye out for Bane. Eventually there will be a higher plateau guarded by two bane mortars/cannons. Several bane groups guard the plateau, and you may even find the boss Vulcanus. Once the area is cleared (or you can just run for it), head to the mission indicator and take a gander at the Bane base filling the Volcano crater. Now you just need to return to Colonel Sherk. You do have a portable waypoint, right?
