Overview[]
In Tabula Rasa a Critical Hit (often referred to as a crit) occurs randomly with a low percentage chance, modified by your Spirit attribute, each time you deal damage.
Increasing the chance of a Critical Hit can be done in several ways:
- Investing points in certain Skills - for example Firearms, which at pump 5 gives Rifles an extra 10% chance of dealing a Critical Hit.
- Modification of weapons - typically, the chance is increased by 1% per modifier level. A notable exception is the "Big Bertha" chaingun which has a level 5 modifier increasing this chance by 25%.
- Each point spent in Spirit increases your Critical Hit chance by 0.065%.
Effect of Critical Hits[]
Critical Hits can do a significant amount of additional damage and can sometimes be the only thing between you and a quick death. They will do around 50% more damage to mobs, making a 5000 damage hit instead deal 7500 damage. In PvP a Critical Hit to other players will only increase the damage by 25%, making a 5000 damage hit deal 6250 damage.
It is easy to see when a Critical Hit occurs in game - the damage text for a Critical Hit is much larger and glows white.
Secondary effects[]
Critical Hits also have secondary effects based on the damage type:
- Physical
- Triggers an armor-piercing DOT effect.
- EMP
- Prevents the target's armor regen.
- Laser
- Reduces the target's ranged damage by 35%. Also sometimes known as "Crit Light" due to bad terminology use.
- Sonic
- Knockback on the target.
- Electric
- Triggers Arc similar to Lightning.
- Virulent
- Causes a fairly potent snare.
- Fire
- Sets the target on fire, causing a DOT effect.
- Ice
- Freezes the target, causing a stun effect.
Overkill[]
If the last attack dealt to a mob before it dies is a Critical Hit a red skull will appear over it's head and it can be hit with a melee attack (default key: F) for double XP and extra adrenaline. This is known as an "Overkill" or "Crit Killing". When correctly performed this will also deal additional damage to any remaining mobs nearby with the damage type dealt to them corresponding to the damage type used to trigger the overkill.
